ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS
At Rosemount High School, our English Language Arts (ELA) program is designed to develop confident, thoughtful, and effective communicators. Rooted in the Québec Education Program (QEP), our Cycle 1 and Cycle 2 courses emphasize the integrated development of reading, writing, and oral communication skills.
Through a rich variety of literary genres, media texts, and writing practices, students in Cycle 1 (Secondary I and II) explore how language shapes meaning and identity. We focus on nurturing critical thinking, creativity, and the ability to construct meaning in diverse contexts, preparing students for active participation in society.
In Cycle 2, students build on the foundations developed in earlier years by engaging with increasingly complex texts and honing advanced strategies for analysis, argumentation, and self-expression. Aligned with the Québec Education Program (QEP) competencies (Uses Language to Communicate and Learn; Reads and Listens to Texts; and Produces Spoken, Written and Media Texts), the Cycle 2 ELA curriculum emphasizes clarity, coherence, and depth. Students learn to respond critically to diverse texts and to produce written and media works that reflect sophisticated understanding and effective communication.
